Josh Doig will not be pressured to decide on his future as Torino intensifies their attempt to steal the left-back from the Rangers.

This month, as new Ibrox manager Philippe Clement gets ready to restructure his team,

the former Hibs player has surfaced as a possible recruit for the Gers.

At one point, it appeared that Ridvan Yilmaz would be used as a makeweight because Verona, Doig’s club,

was interested in the Turkish defender for the Gers.

The former Besiktas full-back still looks to be heading out,

with sources in Italy suggesting that Gers and the Serie A team have reached an agreement over a £3 million deal.

However, Torino, Verona’s domestic rivals,

are prepared to throw a wrench in the Rangers’ plans by making their own move for Doig.

According to Record Sport, Turin manager Ivan Juric is working hard to finalise a £3.5 million deal that

would include Lithuanian young player Gvidas Gineitis and a sizable sell-on fee.

But Doig is not going to rush into making a decision,

or even determining whether to make a move at all.

The 2021 Young Player of the Year from Scotland has two and a half more years left on

his contract after moving to Italy last year.

This season, he has fluctuated in and out of the Verona lineup; nevertheless,

on Saturday, he started in the San Siro as his club barely fell to Inter Milan. After 73 minutes,

Doig was substituted, and he observed the Nerazzurri steal the victory in stoppage time from the bench.

Nevertheless, the Scotland team member’s run out was brilliant as he assisted in neutralising Dutch star Denzel Dumfries.

And when he weighs his options this month,

the former Easter Road academy graduate will make getting regular game time,

with his parent club or elsewhere—his top priority as he looks to push his way into Steve Clarke’s Euros squad,

having only made 32 appearances and scored two goals since joining Scotland’s expanding group of Serie A stars.

Rangers may or may not make a formal offer in response,

but with Yilmaz getting closer to leaving,

Clement will probably be looking to fill the void at left-back.

At the beginning of the previous season,

Gio van Bronckhorst paid £3.4 million to sign the 22-year-old.

As per the agreement, Besiktas will also be entitled to a 20 percent sell-on fee.

Borna Barisic’s contract expires at the end of the season,

thus Clement knows he needs to take care of the situation quickly.

Clement might also take Twente full-back Gijs Smal into consideration if Doig isn’t the right fit.

The 26-year-old’s Dutch employers are aware that this month is their final opportunity to make money because their contract is slated to end in the summer.

Previously, the player was valued at £5 million.
