Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa has long been associated with Arsenal, and rumors about him persist.

For example, in November, Fabrizio Romano declared on his YouTube channel that the midfielder from Brazil is “the

top target” for the Gunners this season. Sam Dean stated on The Arsenal Beat Podcast a while back that Arsenal

would be making a “very realistic and reasonable shout” to get Luiz.

The 25-year-old has put up some great numbers this season and is still only getting better for the Villans.

Luiz has made 19 appearances in the Premier League and has six goals and three assists, which is an incredible total

for a center midfielder who has also played defensive midfield.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Murphy included Luiz in his Premier League squad of the first half of the season, pairing him with Declan Rice of the Gunners as his double pivot.

He started, “I’ve gone for Douglas Luiz at Villa among the two holding midfielders.”

“Got a step up, I believe. He’s been amazing, and a big part of why Villa are where they are is because of him.

“And Declan Rice, given his ability to adjust to life at Arsenal.”

Murphy gave special references to Rodri and John McGinn, but chose to prioritize Luiz and Rice.

Since joining Villa from Manchester City in 2019 for a just £15 million, Luiz has been amazing.

After that, he made 179 appearances with the Villans, finishing with 19 goals and 19 assists.

It will becoming tougher and harder to sign him, therefore Arsenal will undoubtedly be devastated that they weren’t able to do so a few years ago.

Villa has a great chance to win more hardware this season and in the future as they presently sit higher in the Premier League standings than the Gunners.

It will be quite difficult for Arsenal to sign Luiz in January. Why would Villa, a title contender, split ways with a player of his caliber in the middle of the season?
