Before their most recent game, the Golden State Warriors decided on their starting lineup, moving Chris Paul and Trayce-Jackson Davis into the starting five in place of Kevon Looney and Brandin Podziemski. Even though the Warriors lost the game, head coach Steve Kerr told the reporters he intends to continue with this five for the time being because he wants to see more of it.

After the Dallas game, Kerr responded to a question about his starting lineup, saying, “We’re looking for a boost defensively.” With that starting lineup for the past two weeks, the defense’s stats weren’t very impressive. From the beginning, we wanted Steph to be more active and we needed greater defence. We believed that Steph may become somewhat more open when Chris was on the ground.”

Even if the outcome of that game wasn’t what Golden State had hoped for, Kerr hopes to see more of this squad in the future. This five-man group has its advantages, no doubt, but it also has certain disadvantages.

It’s hard to maintain Curry and Paul’s backcourt defence when a rookie centre is anchored by the defence. Even though Jackson-Davis has exceptional vertical ability, he is still susceptible to foul trouble, which can happen more frequently when the guards aren’t providing much perimeter defence.

Golden State’s present dilemma is that there isn’t a perfect solution as it stands, therefore Kerr is looking for solutions.
