What Brad Stevens must do to get his deserving first-time Boston Celtics All-Star candidate to Indianapolis

According to Chris Forsberg of NBC Sports Boston,

the phone and exert enough pressure to convince worthy possible first-time

All-Star Derrick White to travel to Indianapolis for the mid-February classic.

“In order to get White to Indianapolis, the Celtics likely will need to keep

this campaign going for the next few weeks,” wrote Forsberg.

“Indiana native Brad Stevens might need to get on the phone and remind

some of his former coaching brethren just how the team feels about White’s impact on winning this season.”

Forsberg notes that White leads the Eastern Conference and the league overall in a number of statistical categories.

Forsberg said, “White deserves the fanfare,” and then continued,

“His on/off splits continue to be outrageous.” With White playing 945 minutes of floor time,

Boston is outscoring opponents by 15 points per 100 possessions.

Among all players who play more than 24 minutes a game on average in the NBA,

that is the best net rating. Joel Embiid, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander,

Tyrese Maxey, Nikola Jokic, and Kristaps Porzingis are the guys right behind him on that list.

Furthermore, in his 611 minutes on the bench, Boston’s net rating plummets to a team-worst +3.0.”

It is improbable that Boston Celtics would send their whole starting lineup to the NBA All-Star Game in 2024.

As Forsberg notes, it is improbable that the Cs will have all five starters, but having several All-Stars is likely, if not overwhelmingly so.

He began, “That’s not happening. The Celtics, full of talent,

are lobbying for their entire starting five to make the All-Star game this year.”

There are those on the Cs who believe that Jaylen Brown is the player who needs to make the exhibition.

The most deserving player for an All-Star selection is Brown,

according to Adam Taylor of CelticsBlog.

“Even before his supermax contract has officially started,

his performance is already being evaluated in relation to its cost.

The criticism would reach unjustified new heights if he were to miss out on the All-Star team.”

This writer believes that Brown and Jayson Tatum are the only likely All-Stars,

but there is still time for Kristaps Porzingis to prove his worth and for White to strengthen

his long-shot bid to play in the game before Indianapolis hosts

the Association’s annual weekend-long celebration of the NBA’s best players.
