Aston Villa and Crystal Palace are both interested in the seven-goal striker.
Albert Gudmundsson, an attacker for Genoa, is supposedly being watched by Crystal Palace during the January
transfer window.
Due to their lack of firepower this season, Roy Hodgson’s team may prioritize signing a midfielder given Cheick
Doucoure’s injury and try to bolster their attacking options during the transfer window, albeit money may be tight.
With seven goals and two assists in 16 Serie A games this season, Gudmundsson has been one of Genoa’s best
players; yet, Palace may have competition for his services.
Albert Gudmundsson is of interest to Crystal Palace.
The 26-year-old has reportedly been scouted by Crystal Palace, Brentford, and Aston Villa in recent months,
according to a report in the print edition of Tuttosport Newspaper. As a flexible attacker who can play as a number
nine, behind the striker, or even on the left side, Gudmundsson could be a good choice to partially replace Wilfried
Zaha’s production.
With three years remaining on his contract, a summer transfer seems more likely for the Iceland international,
however it’s unclear what kind of amount will be required to sign him.
This season, Gudmundsson has been outstanding in front of goal, scoring against teams like Roma and Juventus.
Teammate Kevin Strootman even likened him to Mohamed Salah. Strootman said in November that “he won’t stay at
Genoa for long if he keeps improving.”
The way he periodically vanishes reminds me of Salah during his time at Roma. He would get four or five
opportunities every game, and he would score at most one, much like Salah did back then.
“They used to think Salah would be playing for Liverpool if he was more clinical, and that’s precisely what happened.
With all due humor, Gudmundsson is a fantastic player and a model professional.
Although it seems doubtful that Palace would be able to pay a substantial cost for Gudmundsson, he would be a nice
addition if Palace can pull it off, given that Matheus Franca has not been given opportunities, Jordan Ayew will be
away at AFCON, and Zaha was not replaced in the summer.
