Talented young midfielder Andrew Gaffney has left Berwick Rangers and returned to his parent club St Mirren following the expiry of the loan agreement made between the two clubs in October.

The 19 year-old made seven starts and two substitute appearances for the Wee ‘Gers, including a run of five consecutive starts in December, from the away trip to Cumbernauld Colts through to the home match against Gala Fairydean Rovers.

His one goal for Thomas Scobbie’s side came against Cumbernauld, as Gaffney reacted quickest to Jackson Mylchreest’s header across the six-yard box to give his side a first-half lead at Broadwood.

Andrew returns to St Mirren having gained valuable experience in senior football, and demonstrated his impressive talent and understanding of the game in his brief time with us.

We thank St Mirren for allowing the loan deal to take place, and wish Andrew the very best for what we are sure will be a bright future in football.

Following Andrew Gaffney’s departure from the team, Berwick is down to four loanees: Bayley Klimionek, Joe Ellison, Scott Bright, and Jackson Mylchreest from St Johnstone.

After Andrew’s stint ends, there will be one available spot for a new loan player (a maximum of five loanees per team is permitted).

Berwick manager Thomas Scobbie will be scouring the loan market in the coming weeks to add to the caliber and depth of his squad.
