Although it won’t be simple, AC Milan has the opportunity to sign Clement Lenglet to add defensive depth.
According to Niccolo Ceccarini of TMW (via Milan News), Milan can still pursue the Lenglet option, but there will be
a lot of work to be done considering his current circumstances. Although Lenglet is currently on loan at Aston Villa
in the Premier League, he is owned by Barcelona. He isn’t a regular starter for the Villains, so he would probably be
open to trying something different.
Lenglet will be under Barcelona’s control for the remainder of the season, despite Villa manager Unai Emery’s stated
wish to keep him. Milan might then talk to the Blaugrana about a brief loan arrangement if they were to call up the
Frenchman. They would most likely want Milan to have the choice—or the obligation—to purchase the player at the
end of the current campaign. There are plenty of alternative options, including Lloyd Kelly at Bournemouth and
Thilo Kehrer at West Ham, should Milan determine that this is too difficult.
It’s certain that, upon his return from his loan at Villarreal, Matteo Gabbia will be the first defender through the door.
