Cowboys will induct Jimmy Johnson, head coach of the Hall of Fame, into the Ring of Honor

Texas Jimmy Johnson, the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys,

will be inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor during their Saturday night (Dec. 30) game against the Detroit Lions.

Jerry Jones, the owner of the Cowboys,

first declared in August 2021 that Johnson would be admitted into the Ring of Honor.

Johnson coached at the collegiate level for the University of Miami from 1984 to 1988 before joining the Cowboys.

During that time, he guided his team to a National Championship in 1987.

Following his tenure with the Hurricanes,

Johnson joined the NFL and served as the Cowboys’ coach for five seasons (1989–1993).

Johnson finished 44-36 overall and 7-1 in the postseason over those five seasons,

including back-to-back Super Bowl victories in the 1992 and 1993 campaigns.

In 1990, he was again named the AP NFL Coach of the Year.

Johnson’s final NFL coaching position was as the famous head coach Don Shula’s replacement with the Miami Dolphins from 1996 to 1999.

As a member of the 2020 class, Johnson was admitted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
