AS Roma have been linked with an out-of-favour West Ham defender by a top journalist.

Fabrizio Romano, a friend of The West Ham Way,

is one of the football world’s most trustworthy journalists.

His insider knowledge is exceptional, particularly with Italian clubs.

He recently told CaughtOffside that Jose Mourinho needs to bring in a trustworthy center-back.

Numerous defenders, like Trevoh Chalobah, have been connected to Roma;

nevertheless, Fabrizio does not think the club is considering Chalobah.

Curiously, though, he has hinted that they would try to recruit a marginal

West Ham player or a renowned Italian defender.

Leonardo Bonucci disclosed that Roma had extended an offer to him in January.

“While he would really like to play in Euro 2024,

it would be very beneficial to play for Roma,” he said.

Roma hasn’t made a decision regarding the player they wish to sign to fill that role, though.

“The Giallorossi have received an offer for Thilo Kehrer of West Ham,

so Bonucci is not the only option.”

At first look, you might assume that Bonucci would be the best choice,

but when you take into account that Kehrer is nine years younger, it all makes sense.

Roma must decide whether to take the younger,

less skilled leader who might offer greater value for money or to stick with

the seasoned leader who will only be around for a year or two.

Given their need to raise money to bolster their own team,

West Ham will undoubtedly be hoping they opt for the latter.

Although they might have to sell for less to ensure they get some money back,

they will be trying to recoup their £10 million investment in the adaptable defender.
