Rangers transfer news as player sale update emerges on Kevin van Veen

According to the Daily Record, if Groningen allowed Kevin van Veen to go on loan to Rangers or any other Scottish team in January, they would want a large portion of his salary paid.

In the print edition [27 December, page 45], the newspaper stated that any elite team in the Scottish Premiership would probably have to give up a striker before they could recruit him.

The Dutch team would want to recoup as much of the £500,000 they spent to sell him permanently, with Van Veen currently in Scotland ahead of January, where he scored 29 goals last season.

This follows the Scottish Daily Mail’s claim [27 December, pg 69] that Van Veen was open to being signed by Rangers, who had reached out to him.

Rangers’ primary strike alternatives at the moment are Cyriel Dessers, Kemar Roofe, and Danilo; selling any of those is improbable at this point.

Roofe would be the name that jumps out as someone who could potentially be sold, but with his injury record, who would jump at that chance right now?

The Jamaican international scores some huge goals too, and is liked by practically every manager that comes through the doors at Auchenhowie and Ibrox.

So, would he be sold to bring in a struggling 32-year-old? Yes, he has been proven in Scotland before but that doesn’t mean he will just hit the ground running immediately, so it could be a real risk.

James Bisgrove has put together his transfer team at Ibrox finally with the help of Philippe Clement, and all eyes will be on Nils Koppen and his groundwork ahead of his first window.

Will Van Veen be high on that list? It appears as though eyes may be elsewhere with the potential sale needing to happen first, it just doesn’t make too much sense right now.
