Despite holding a strong 10-5 record, the Dallas Cowboys have been up and down throughout this season.

They looked dominant in September, became a bit shaky in October and early November, but then ran off five wins in a row and looked very much like Super Bowl frontrunners.

But in the last two weeks, Dallas has lost to a sputtering Buffalo Bills team and a Miami Dolphins squad that hadn’t defeated any teams with a winning record.

While Dallas has been dynamite at home, they have struggled on the road, and one reason is turnovers.

Head coach Mike McCarthy said they simply have to be better when it comes to taking care of the ball, per Calvin Watkins.

Versus Miami, quarterback Dak Prescott fumbled the ball away on the Cowboys’ first offensive series of the game, and while he played well overall, he couldn’t prevent his team from falling behind 19-10 late in the third quarter.

It appeared he had delivered in the clutch with his touchdown pass to wide receiver Brandin Cooks with 3:32 left in the fourth quarter, but the Dolphins controlled the clock and got a field goal from Jason Sanders as time expired for a 22-20 win.

Being able to win games against quality opponents, especially in crunch time, seems to be the big bugaboo for the Cowboys over the last few years.

They lost a close contest to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 9, and now, their chances of beating out Philly for first place in the NFC East seem slim.

That would mean the Cowboys will likely have to go on the road against the Eagles and/or the San Francisco 49ers to reach the Super Bowl, which would be a tough task for a team that is just 3-5 on the road in 2023.
