Pittsburgh — In Week 16 against the Cincinnati Bengals,

the Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to be without three players;

however, one of their backup players may return prior to kickoff.

The Steelers declared that Trenton Thompson, Minkah Fitzpatrick,

and quarterback Kenny Pickett will not be playing in Week 16.

Elijah Riley, a defensive back who has spent the last four weeks on injured reserve,

is graded as questionable.

Following the team’s final practice,

head coach Mike Tomlin stated that Pickett would not play against the Bengals.

The Steelers will start Mason Rudolph at quarterback in his place,

with Mitch Trubisky serving as backup.

Fitzpatrick injured his knee against the Indianapolis Colts last week,

so he was declared out early in the week.

Since the All-Pro safety was unable to practise all week,

it is unknown how long he will be out of commission.

Due to Damontae Kazee’s suspension for the remainder of the regular season and Thompson’s neck injury,

Pittsburgh will start Miles Killebrew,

practice squad player Eric Rowe, and Patrick Peterson at safety.

Riley will also add to the safety rotation if he is activated for the game.

Riley’s ankle ailment kept him out of action for the previous four weeks,

but this week he was back in the gym, giving him a 21-day window to return.
