Douglas Luiz’s price tag is set to drop in next summer’s transfer window if he does not sign a new contract at Aston

Villa, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (18 December) that Arsenal are set to push to land Luiz,

25, at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that a January swoop for the Brazil international

“looks impossible” with Villa set to ask for around £100million for his signature.

But when the season ends, Luiz will only have 18 months left on his Villa Park contract, and if no movement is made on a new deal, it is thought that his value will decrease proportionally.

Due to their successful start to the season and the club’s wealthy owners’ support,

the Midlands giants are not now under any pressure to sell. As a result, there is no need to raise

significant revenue by offloading important players.

Despite his contract status, Luiz is still an important component of Unai Emery’s plans,

a well-placed source has told Football Insider.

In the previously transfer window of 2022, Arsenal made several attempts to sign Luiz but had more than two bids turned down.

It’s thought that Edu, the sporting director of the Gunners, is a huge supporter of his compatriot, who has a large following at the Emirates Stadium.

Among the other teams with a keen interest in the midfield player are Man City.

Luiz has made 26 appearances this season in all competitions, recording four assists and six goals.
