Celtics injury report: Starter ruled out vs. Warriors Tuesday
The organization declared Tuesday afternoon that starting center Kristaps Porzingis will be absent when the Celtics play the Warriors
on Tuesday night. Due to left calf injury management, Porzingis will miss his second game in the last week.
Luke Kornet, Boston’s backup center, will also miss the game because of a left adductor strain.
Porzingis missed Friday’s game due to calf pain, but he played 29 minutes on Sunday in a victory over the Magic.
In order to distribute the veteran big men’s rests evenly, Boston may decide to bench him
for half of its back-to-back games against the Warriors and Kings on Tuesday night.
Al Horford is playing the opening half of the back-to-back on Tuesday, despite not having participated
in consecutive games since the beginning of the previous campaign.
Porzingis did not sound concerned about the calf injury after Sunday’s win even though it also faced him
to miss four other games earlier this month.
About missing out on Friday, Porzingis added, “To be honest, it was just a cautionary thing.” “Avoid having two games in a row.
Still, it was pleasant. I could have played because it felt good enough. Just the medical personnel,
I believe, is being more cautious, especially in the initial weeks following the calf procedure.
In Sunday’s 114-97 victory, which was Boston’s fifth consecutive, Porzingis recorded a double-double
with 15 points and 10 rebounds. The seasoned center is giving the team’s medical
staff more discretion over how to manage his development, even with that outstanding output.
“I want to play in every game they let me,” Porzingis declared. “They know my stance.” “They naturally want to take good care of me and my health, though. Please make sure I stay for the big picture.
With Porzingis sidelined, Joe Mazzulla will delegate more of his bench to Horford, who will start at center.
Neemias Queta might play center, while smaller players like Lamar Stevens or Oshae Brissett might get more
playing time following their strong showings against the Magic the previous week.
The Celtics and Warriors will tip off at 10 p.m. ET at Chase Center on Tuesday night as Boston
attempts to win their sixth straight game.
