After Celtic lost in the Premiership for the second week in a row,

Brendan Rodgers made no attempt to downplay the situation.

Angry supporters threw objects at the board after Hearts’ 2-0 victory

followed their 2-1 defeat at Rugby Park by Kilmarnock the previous Saturday,

two losses that cost the champions six crucial points.

But when Rodgers said to Sky Sports,

“You do your talking on the pitch,” he stood up to be heard.

It was my and the players’ day today.

“I need to find the answers for this group because this was nowhere near the calibre of a Celtic player,

and that is something that falls on me.

This serves as our main course. This is the point at which you must act.

If your domestic performance is lacking, you will not make it to the Champions League.

You as a player need to find a way to come into these games after a midweek match,

after a strong showing in the Champions League,

and you need to come into the game and produce the level. You cannot keep using foul language.

“For me, it always begins with the ball, and when you are so timid and under-aggressive,

that, in my opinion, is your passion and how much you want to win the game.

“Unfortunately for us, that just wasn’t good enough when you had the ball and it went to the side.”

The board and Rodgers are committed to seeing to it that the champions return to form as soon as possible,

and this will continue when Livingston visits on Saturday.

The defeat at home to Tynecastle, which came after draws against Motherwell (1-1) and St Johnstone (0-0),

has now cost the Hoops seven points.

That is three more than they had throughout the whole previous season,

when they were undefeated in Glasgow’s east end.

However, they were locked in draws of 1-1 with the Fir Park team and 2-2 with St Mirren.
