Barbarians to face free-flowing World Cup quarter-finalists Fiji at Twickenham in 2024

In 2024, the Barbarians will play at Twickenham against Fiji,

the free-flowing World Cup quarterfinalists.

Robbie Deans, the former head coach of Australia,

will be leading the Baa-Baas for the sixth time.

At Twickenham in 2024, the Barbarians will take on Fiji,

the free-flowing World Cup quarterfinalists,

in a match that promises 80 minutes of nonstop attacking rugby.

Earlier this year, Fiji made an impressive showing at the global tournament held in France.

They advanced to the round of eight,

where they were defeated by England under Steve Borthwick.

Following the defeat, Simon Raiwalui, the head coach of the nation of Pacific Islands,

resigned from his position, and Fiji is still searching for his replacement.

With all the rugby skill in the country,

there probably won’t be a shortage of potential contenders.

The historic Barbarians will be the opponent on June 22 at the home of English rugby;

whomever fills the position can look forward to this match,

which takes place at the conclusion of the domestic season.

On that day, rugby fans who are unable to go

to the Far East can still attend a game at Twickenham.

Eddie Jones, the new head coach of Japan and a former Red Rose manager,

will reunite with the England national side,

which is coached by Borthwick. Robbie Deans will take

on his sixth coaching role with the Barbarians.

The Barbarians are, in my opinion, the guardians of the game’s essence.

“I became hooked on the game when

I saw that incredible Barbarians try at Cardiff Arms Park in 1973,

and I’m sure it did the same for a lot of other people.”

The Barbarians’ spirit was kindled at that moment.

At the time, the game was amateurish.

Even though some people are now highly compensated professional athletes,

the Barbarians serve as a constant reminder that rugby is ultimately only a game.

We owe it to the generations who come after us.

It will be Fiji’s first trip back to Twickenham since they defeated

England 30–22 in a thrilling World Cup warm-up back in August.

The Fiji Rugby Union’s interim administrator,

Simi Valenitabua, described playing the Barbarians as a fantastic opportunity.

They are well known for their outstanding running rugby.

The way we prefer to play the game is quite close to the Fijian way of thinking.

“Fiji is appreciative of the opportunity to compete against

the Barbarians at the storied rugby stadium Twickenham.”

Throughout its illustrious 130-year existence,

the club has fielded numerous rugby greats.

“Since World Rugby continues to support our game with the Fijian Drua Super Rugby team,

games like these are invaluable to Fiji Rugby.”

Jonathan Thomas, meanwhile, has departed from

the Wales coaching group under Warren Gatland in order ‘to seek other opportunities in rugby’.

Last year, the former forward became a member of the national team.

According to Wales’ head coach Gatland, Jonathan has been a valuable team member.

He is a fantastic coach with a bright future in the sport,

and he has significantly aided the team’s growth

particularly during the World Cup in France.

“We wish him well in his future endeavours,

and I am confident that he will contribute to any side in whatever role he decides to take on.”
