Once targeted for abuse by rival fans, 33-year old bluenose track star retires – Gers legend reacts

Athlete Lynsey Sharp was one of several celebrities who will always

have their head chopped off if they confess that they are Rangers fans.

After a glittering and always exciting career, the 33-year-old 800m specialist

who was welcomed to Ibrox in 2014—has announced her retirement from competitive racing.

Rangers will always welcome Lynsey Sharp with open arms now that she has more time on her hands,

even though she was a multiple medal winning Scot that was never supported by some parts of the country.

In addition to a youngster to occupy her time,

she has received assistance from a person she knows well and who is eager to visit Ibrox whenever he can.

Rangers great Richard Gough was quick to offer his fellow former Californian,

Lynsey Sharp, a hand of friendship after she announced her retirement on social media:

“You are a sharp-edged legend. What an amazing career you’ve had.

Amazing memories will stick with you for the rest of your life.

“I am honoured to call you a friend,

and maybe your retirement will free up more time for you to visit us here in California.

“My friend, you are always welcome to stay at our house with Max, Andrew, and myself.

Best wishes for a fantastic career and I hope to meet you soon.

Although Sharp is the partner of Team GB athlete Andrew Butchart,

he hasn’t had nearly the same level of backlash as she did when

she was at her best for being honest about her allegiances and denouncing the previous owners.

Lynsey Sharp was the victim of online abuse even when she refrained from commenting about the clubs she adores,

as she was singled out for abuse whenever someone made a comment critical of the Rangers.

She virtually stopped using social media altogether because of it.

The two-time Olympian, gold medallist in Europe,

and silver medallist in the Commonwealth Games had an impressive career.

To be handed her medal on the Ibrox turf after winning silver in

Glasgow must rank very high on her list of achievements.

She will have more time to visit Gough now that her legs are resting,

and who wouldn’t want that name in their contact list to have coffee and reminisce about everything Rangers?
