‘Absolutely top class’… Ally McCoist raves about Rangers star’s crucial moment vs Real Betis.
When Connor Goldson helped the Rangers defeat Real Betis in the Europa League, Ally McCoist was ecstatic.
The Ibrox team shocked everyone by winning 3-2 in Seville,
advancing them to the top of Group C and the round of 16 in the competition.
Rangers defeated Manuel Pellegrini’s Real Betis at home for the first time this season after
taking the lead three times against the La Liga team in a memorable match.
After the game, teammates praised Abdallah Sima and Cyriel Dessers for their outstanding finishes,
which set up Rangers’ first two goals of the game. Then, substitute Kemar Roofe
scored the crucial third goal. And it made the thousands of Rangers supporters in attendance go crazy.
Almost every Rangers star had a fantastic game but Ibrox legend McCoist was keen to highlight
Goldson’s involvement to set up Roofe from close-range.
Ally McCoist buzzing over Connor Goldson’s Rangers assist
Following the match, McCoist discussed the outcome on TNT Sports with host
Emma Dodds and Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes. “(Connor) Goldson’s composure at the
back post to pick out (Rabbi) Matondo is superb. Most people just put their foot through it but he shows,
for a centre-half, incredible positioning. Isco drops his man which
is poor and the ball drops to the back post,” McCoist said.
“Connor Goldson’s shot to put the ball back in the danger zone at that moment is really phenomenal.
Furthermore, nothing has convinced me that Kemar Roofe is the team’s best finisher.
Connor Goldson was immense for Rangers
As previously said, not a single individual wearing a Light Blue jersey performed poorly yesterday night.
Goldson was one of them, of course, and he demonstrated the importance he can have for the Rangers.
Over the years, he may have drawn some skeptics due to his reputation as one
of the more seasoned players in the Ibrox squad.
However, his contribution to the offensive and defense against Betis last night was
essential to Rangers’ advancement to the next round of the Europa League.
