According to Stephen McGowan, in the most recent VAR meeting at Hampden Park,

officials dissected a few Rangers decisions.

The goals against Celtic at Ibrox that were disallowed and

the Abdallah Sima goal that was awarded despite the commotion against

Livingston were selected by the SFA officials.

The journalist for Scottish Daily Mail acknowledged that

VAR is extremely arbitrary and that the Scottish Premiership will be “doomed” as long as it persists.

Speaking on the most recent PLZ Soccer YouTube episode of The Journos,

McGowan discussed the recent briefing that was held at Hampden.

“A few weeks ago, I attended an SFA VAR briefing at Hampden,” he stated.

“The referees, Nick Walsh and Greg Aitken,

went over the most controversial occurrences in Scottish football during the previous 11 or 12 games.

They discussed the Rangers goal that was chalked off in the Old Firm and

provided an explanation for why it wasn’t a goal and other things.

They showed some transparency,

but the thing that struck me the most about the independent assessment panel was

the reminder of the goal Rangers scored against Livingston.

Was it a push? In my opinion, that was one of the worst instances of this season.

Regardless of the teams involved, it was simply an unfortunate circumstance,

and the goal was awarded.

Nick Walsh served as the VAR that evening,

and I imagine he would look back and believe he didn’t do his job well.

“The whole thing is just so completely subjective,

that we will never find agreement, and as long as there is subjective,

it’s doomed,” the independent review panel said.

Endless?

The scrutiny of officiating in Scotland has been ongoing,

even prior to the clubs’ vote to implement VAR last season.

When the Bears dominate games and get penalties,

opposing fans cry and try to organise some kind of conspiracy against them.

The Rangers are always at the centre of that as well.

The two aforementioned occurrences were before to Philippe Clement joining the team,

and he is far more composed when it comes to the drama surrounding games that take place almost every week.

Consider the red card given to Jose Cifuentes when technology intervened.

The Belgian was not pleased and filed an appeal, but after it was denied,

he moved on while being a little confused.

It must be acknowledged that VAR is here to stay and that,

despite the officials’ best efforts to justify their choices,

no fan or club will ever fully support them.
