Before the Villans’ victory over Arsenal on Saturday, Redknapp made a statement on Sky Sports (broadcast on September 12 at 17:06), expressing his skepticism about the Jamaican international’s suitability for the Premier League.

Heading into this season, Leon Bailey had scored six goals and provided six assists in 54 games in all competitions for the Villans.

Jamie Redknapp admits he was wrong about Leon Bailey

He has already eclipsed those tallies in the opening 22 games of this campaign. Bailey now has eight goals and seven assists, with nine of those goal contributions coming in the Premier League.

His most recent achievement was setting up John McGinn for Saturday’s winning goal over Arsenal. Additionally, Jamie Redknapp said before the match that the winger had fully shown him incorrect this season.

They pose a threat in every part of the field. I didn’t think Leon Bailey was good enough for the Premier League. He said to Sky Sports, “I mean, look at him now—he’s scoring goals against Manchester City that win.”

Aston Villa most definitely in title contention

In truth, what Redknapp said about Bailey could potentially apply to a number of players within the Villa squad.

Unai Emery has been able to make signings. However, what he has done with a number of the players already at the club is remarkable.

Bailey looked like one of those talented players who would never quite realise his potential at Villa Park. He had been a decent signing at £25 million. But he has found another level in the early stages of this campaign.

And Aston Villa are now in the Premier League title picture after their wins over the Gunners and Manchester City.

Bailey is one of several game-changers in the Villa side. And they will believe that there is no reason why they cannot continue to stand alongside the pace-setters in the top-flight.
