Prior to Wednesday’s match at home against Liverpool,

Sheffield United fired Paul Heckingbottom after a dismal return to the Premier League.

Most people have questioned Heckingbottom’s dismissal since manager was given

almost no funding to assemble his team for the upcoming season following his elevation,

and because important players like Sander Berge and Iliman Ndiaye were also let go.

Nevertheless, Heckingbottom was fired, and his two deputies left Bramall Lane with him.

Stuart McCall, a former Everton player, is one of them.

Mark Hudson, the former manager of Cardiff City, has also stepped down.

McCall, who has previously played for Rangers, Bradford City, and Sheffield United,

was an Everton player from 1988 to 1991, making 103 league matches during that time.

Throughout his managing career,

McCall has had three distinct stints as Bradford City’s manager in addition to one as an acting manager.

In addition, he spent stints at Motherwell and Scunthrope United.

In 2015, he also served as Rangers’ temporary manager.

It is unclear if he would try to go back into management or if he will look for work as an assistant somewhere.

We do know, though, that three years after firing the fan favourite,

Sheffield United will look to former manager Chris Wilder.

“Sheffield United can confirm that football manager Paul Heckingbottom has been relieved of his duties,”

the club said in a statement confirming the decision to fire Heckingbottom and his coaching team.

In addition, the team has lost coaches Stuart McCall and Mark Hudson.”
