Despite interest from several teams, including Premier League champions Arsenal, Douglas Luiz has stated that his attention is on Aston Villa.

The Gunners made three deadline-day bids for the 25-year-old in the summer of 2022, so his future is still up for dispute.

And even though Luiz inked a new, long-term contract with Villa, a few well-known opponents are still keeping an eye on him.

Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, has long been a fan of the Brazilian, having coached him at Manchester City.

Luiz is rumored to be at the top of the Gunners’ wish list when they look to add a new midfield player in January.

Luiz reiterates that he is not being sidetracked by the transfer talk, even though he appreciates the accolades.

He told Sky Sports, “I am here at Aston Villa and I am very happy to hear the stories.”

“My focus is totally here. I don’t spend a lot of time looking at the stories. I see them, but I don’t focus on that and I’m not looking at it every day. My head is here at Aston Villa.”

Luiz is in his fifth season at Villa having arrived from City in 2019, and the Brazilian admitted he was hugely grateful for the opportunities Villa had given him.

He explained:

“Aston Villa is a club that opened its doors to me when I came to England, so I have a lot of affection and a lot of love for it.”
