Anthony Gordon transfer proves money well spent for Newcastle as Everton likely to receive further £5million.
Martin Hardy reports that Everton will get an additional £5 million from the sale of
Anthony Gordon since the deal’s add-ons are “likely to be paid.”
After the winger scored the game-winning goal in Newcastle’s 1-0 victory against
Manchester United two days prior, the Times journalist stated on the newspaper’s website
on December 4 that the winger’s move to Newcastle looked like “money well spent” for the Magpies.
The 22-year-old had previously scored and provided an assist in Newcastle’s 4-1 victory
against Chelsea the previous week, bringing his season total in the Premier League to six goals and five assists.
Gordon’s success at St. James’ Park has prompted Hardy to assert that the Toffees
ought to get the whole £45 million contract that was reached in January of the previous year.
At Goodison Park, the Anthony Gordon narrative began brightly and eventually soured to
the point that some fans don’t think highly of him.
He can only now benefit Everton by making sure he fulfills all the requirements of the
transfer clause that sent him to the North East, though, as it will soon be a year since he left the team.
The season for the Toffees has already been thrown for a loophole due
to a 10-point deduction for a profit and sustainability violation,
and there are worries that more issues may arise in later accounting periods.
Therefore, with the former academy product finally sacrificed to help balance the books,
incoming money is obviously vital to the club at an ongoing difficult time,
and Everton will obviously want to get the maximum amount back.
Sean Dyche’s team isn’t missing Gordon’s skill as much as they occasionally did last
season thanks to Dwight McNeil, who scored an incredible winner at Nottingham
Forest this past weekend, Jack Harrison, who is playing well, and, most importantly,
Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who is readily available at striker this season.
The former Toffees youth team player flourishing in the Premier League somewhere
when it should have been in a blue shirt will still not be a welcome sight for many supporters,
but since that ship has long since departed, a few more million in exchange will have to do.
