Benfica manager Roger Schmidt suggests Paulo Bernardo may make a permanent move to Celtic.

After a good loan stint with the Hoops,

a top player on loan from Celtic,

might not want to return to Portugal.

In the most recent Old Firm match,

the midfielder scored against Rangers,

and the champions have the option to purchase the 22-year-old at the end of the current campaign.

After their victory against Gil Vicente the previous weekend,

Benfica manager Schmidt was asked directly about Bernardo’s performance at Celtic and if the Lisbon giants would take him back after his loan term.

And he said,

“Remember that it’s also about the player’s will and what he wants to do.

“The idea is to give all the players who leave Benfica the chance.”

Getting a solid picture of every player is the goal.

“But we have to make difficult decisions afterwards at the end of the season,

because we also have to respect the player’s wishes.”

After scoring a goal against Buckie Thistle in the Scottish Cup,

Bernardo was questioned about if he had explored turning his loan into a permanent move.

“The manager and I simply want to keep things going well and to improve a lot,

” he stated.

“This is really fun for me.

I feel great also since my fans are amazing and they like me.

I simply have to press on.”
