Rangers goal was a sucker punch and should have been ruled out, says Livingston new boy after Goldson clash

Fresh signee David Carson maintains that Livingston’s 3-0 loss to Rangers was the result of a VAR farce, as evidenced by the stud marks on his thigh from Connor Goldson’s challenge.

With “marks down his body” from the collision with the German defender during the build-up to the first goal for the hosts, the defender, who made his debut for the Lions, has a little reminder from the trip to Govan.
In the fortieth minute of play, Goldson’s studs caught Carson in the box before the ball deflected into the path of Fabio Silva, breaking the tie.

The Lions were incensed when Rabbi Matondo added a second goal shortly after, adding salt to the wounds after a protracted VAR review determined there was no case to answer and the goal stood.
Carson claims that the game depended on the contentious opening, even though Todd Cantwell completed the scoring 11 minutes into the second half.

Rangers Goal: David Carson

“The first goal is a sucker punch,” he declared. I think that was the wrong choice. It appears to be a foul. That depletes us of our filling. From that point on, there is always a mountain to climb.

“I’ve been beaten up. I have dead leg, stud marks all over my body, and a thigh.

“I obviously went to attack the ball, put my head on it, and was taken out shortly after.

“He [Goldson] has a tall stature. He just seems to miss my head, if anything.

“You see, after I touched the ball, I touched myself. It seems like a foul to me.

“We knew it would be difficult, but I believe we performed reasonably well in the first half. We gave them only a few opportunities.”

“Yeah, I am,” he replied when asked if he was surprised that VAR had not disallowed the goal. However, I am unable to decide. They’ve succeeded.

“I chatted with the official. He has nothing to say to me about it.

He simply stated that they have made their choice, and that’s what it is.

Livi will now try to snap their sad streak of 16 games without a victory when they play Kilmarnock on Wednesday night in a pivotal match.

Despite having played two more games than Ross County, their current form has left them six points behind in the Premiership; however, Carson says everyone at the Tony Macaroni Arena is optimistic.

He went on, “Everything about the place has a really positive vibe.”

“We simply need to finish this game quickly and focus on Wednesday.

For us, this game is enormous. There are three points that we would like to take.

We’re all in this together. We are aware of what has to happen for us to escape this predicament.

We can also look at Ross County’s weekend loss as a win.

“We’ve just got to go into Wednesday and try to close that gap and in all the games we are now going into.”
