In a little NBA interconference action on Sunday afternoon, Marcus Smart and the Memphis Grizzlies

(isn’t that still funny to say?) traveled to play the Boston Celtics. Naturally, Smart spent the first nine

years of his professional career with the Celtics after being selected in the 2014 NBA Draft out of Oklahoma

State. It was undoubtedly an emotional moment for everyone involved when he returned to TD Garden on

Sunday as a member of the Grizzlies.

Smart talked about his love for Celtics Nation and how they supported him during his time with the team

before the game.

According to Josue Pavón of CLNS Media on X, the social media site that was once known as Twitter,

Smart said, “Thank you guys.” “I will always love you guys.” You people will live on in my heart forever.

I will always remember that. As I mentioned, thank you.

During his time with the Celtics, Smart did in fact win over a lot of fans by embodying the toughness,

grit, and energy that the team had intended to show during its recent winning streak.

Regretfully, Smart was never able to achieve his ultimate dream of winning a championship with the team,

and it is ironic that he was traded as part of a deal that the team’s management thought would get them

closer to that objective.

Whatever the situation, it’s still unsettling to watch Smart wearing a Grizzlies uniform. Celtics supporters,

however, were spared that sight on Sunday as the guard continued to recover from an injury.
