Cowboys interviewing 2 notable ex-head coaches for DC position
When hiring a new defensive coordinator, the Dallas Cowboys appear to be prioritizing experience.
According to many sources, former Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer had an interview
with the Cowboys over the weekend for their DC position.
Ron Rivera has also been connected to Dallas, and according to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports,
the organization intends to speak with the former head coach of the Washington Commanders.
For the previous three seasons, Dan Quinn oversaw the Cowboys’ defense. It’s probable that he
and Rivera may switch roles because he was just appointed head coach of the Commanders.
Before being fired after the 2021 season, Zimmer led the Vikings for eight seasons as head coach.
His record as a head coach was 72-56-1 over his tenure. In 2017, the Vikings had their finest season
under Zimmer, going 13-3 and reaching the NFC Championship Game.
Prior to that, Zimmer worked for the Cowboys as their defensive coordinator from 2000 to 2006.
Before that, he spent multiple seasons in Dallas as an offensive assistant, working for four different head coaches.
