After the Celtics’ loss to the Lakers, Joe Mazzulla of the Celtics delivers a sobering reality check.

Following a lackluster performance on February 1st against the Los Angeles Lakers, the Boston Celtics are

experiencing backlash. The Lakers, sans LeBron James, defeated Jayson Tatum and the Celtics 114-105. Joe

Mazzulla, the head coach, spoke about the dissatisfaction Boston fans felt following the defeat.

Joe Mazzulla finds silver lining in the ire of Celtics supporters

The crowd at TD Garden on Thursday did not take kindly to Boston’s defeat at the hands of the undermanned

Lakers team. Following the game, fans jeered the Celtics. Coach Mazzulla, nevertheless, views their discontent

as a chance for the group to improve.

You ought to be booed. It is, in my opinion, the greatest compliment. According to Jared Weiss, Mazzulla stated,

I think the connectivity to the fans and to the Garden, even when they’re booing us, to me, that’s letting us know

we need to be better.

“That’s almost a good thing, so we have to look at it that way,” the second-year head coach went on.

They’ve been great for us this year.” Although the setback on Thursday night was disheartening, Boston’s

overall efforts should not be diminished.

The Celtics continue to lead the Eastern Conference with a 37-12 record. Leading the team’s all-star roster with

26.8 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game is Jayson Tatum. He was, predictably, Boston’s top scorer

in the Lakers defeat.

Although the 25-year-old is enjoying a fantastic season, the Celtics need every one of their studs to play at their

peak every night in order to stay at the top. However, following Boston fans’ midseason wake-up call,

this shouldn’t be an issue.
