Jae’Sean Tate is a possible addition

to the Boston Celtics, according to The

Athletic

(subscription required). However, Brian

seemed to doubt ther umor’s validity,

almost ruling it out

completely because the forward for the

Houston Rockets doesn’t fit into Grant

Williams’ $6.2 million TPE and

suggesting that improvements could be

made internally.

Before saying, “The Celtics do have the

Grant Williams traded player exception,

but that’s for $6.2 million, Robb noted

that Tate makes a $6.5 million salary this

season with a club option for $7.1 million

next season.” Tate doesn’t meet that

description, then. The Celtics may have

to seek elsewhere as a result, though

Tate, a 28-year-old forward, probably

won’t come with a high asset cost.

As anticipated, Tate isn’t a household

name and would be considered a depth

player on the team. He has played in 43

games for Houston this season, averaging

4.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.1 assists.

Tate isn’t quite the massive wing Stevens

claimed, as he is also listed at 6-foot-4.

Still, Stevens additionally said there are

some internal candidates who could fill

that role, so the C’s aren’t necessarily

married to that idea of trading for a big

wing.”

Oshae Brissett the internal

option the Boston Celtics are

likely to land on

The Boston Celtics’ internal option is

Oshae Brissett. The team’s starting six—

Jason Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Kristaps

Porzingis, Derrick White, Jrue Holiday,

and Al Horford—won’t be changing at

the trade deadline. The most likely

rotation player to be, and even that is

unlikely, is Payton Pritchard.

Then, who is traded? And for whom?

Most likely not a single person. for

nobody.

The large wing? It’s a choice from within.

Oshae Brissett is his name, and while his

rise in Boston has been gradual, it has

been noticeable. Enough to think that

Brad Stevens and the rest of the Celtics

front management are not planning to

part with valuable assets for a player

who is not likely to make an eight or

nine-man rotation.

Kelly Olynyk to the Boston Celtics:

rumors circulating, however highly

unlikely

As noted by Joe Murray of 98.5 The

Sports Hub, there have been whispers

that the Boston Celtics are interested in

dealing for Kelly Olynyk, despite the slim

chance of that happening.

“Yes, former Celtic Olynyk has been

connected to the Celtics numerous times

this season,” Murray said, before adding,

“Stevens would have to work a little

harder to pull off this deal because of

Olynyk’s contract, but Olynyk is exactly

the kind of player Stevens generally

looks for at the deadline. Stretch big

man, he can space the floor and finish

the three when the situation calls for it.

Olynyk’s name is well-known to Boston

fans since he was drafted by the team in

2013. I don’t think Boston has the money

to pull this one off but rumors have been

swirling and Stevens has an ability to

make moves seemingly out of thin air.”

Stevens is alluding to the $12.1 million

deal that Olynyk has expiring in 2023–

2024; the Cs would prorate that amount

by the time they hypothetically land the

former Danny Ainge lottery choice.

It’s unlikely that the Boston Celtics will

trade Payton Pritchard to acquire Kelly

Olynyk.

The NBA is known as the league where

great things happen, which frequently

implies that unexpected, extremely

unlikely events occur. Although it

wouldn’t happen overnight, Boston

landing Olynyk would surprise Celtics

supporters.

Why? Payton Pritchard playing as a

bench warmer would be the only

realistic method to acquire Olynyk short

of dealing the team’s top six players

(Jason Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Kristaps

Porzingis, Derrick White, Jrue Holiday, Al

Horford), which is about as likely as life

on Mercury.
