Rangers have rejected loan offers from Serie A and Bundesliga clubs for Rabbi Matondo during the January transfer

window, according to Football Scotland.

The news outlet reported via X on Thursday (1 February) that the Light Blues have knocked back numerous approaches for the winger

this month as they did not want to sanction a temporary switch away from Ibrox.

Matondo is understood to be happy to stay in Glasgow beyond the end of the January transfer window, and now expects to be involved

more regularly with Abdallah Sima set for an extended spell and the Welshman once again fit and available.

Clever decision

Since coming to Glasgow, Philippe Clement has intended to play with wingers, but due to his restricted choices, the Belgian has had to

start players in positions other than his own or even change his formation and style of play.

Thus, it would have been strange to see Clement permit one of his squad’s only natural wide players to leave Ibrox this month,

particularly in light of the information on Sima’s ailment that surfaced during the African Cup of Nations.

If he can stay fit and available between now and the end of the campaign, Matondo will likely feature week in and week out in the

Scottish Premiership. Sending him out of Ibrox on loan this month would have made absolutely no sense from a Rangers’ perspective.

Hopefully, the Light Blues will be able to add a bit more competition in the wide areas before the January window slams shut. But no

matter who comes in, it doesn’t seem as though Matondo will be heading out.

In other Rangers news, Hellas Verona’s stance has emerged on a last-minute deadline day move for Cyriel Dessers.
