Celtic and Rangers’ Premiership rivals sack manager with ex Gers player taking charge-transfer news
After declaring that they have split ways with former Celtic star Barry Robson, Aberdeen has fired another Scottish Premiership boss.
In a statement that went up today (January 31) at midday, the Dons confirmed the news. In the interim, Scott Anderson will provide
assistance to former Rangers player Peter Leven, a first team coach at Pittodrie who was employed at Ibrox from 2000 to 2004.
“Although it has been a difficult call, the Board felt the change was necessary and in the best interests of Aberdeen FC,” stated
Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack. Barry understood the high standards we had for him when he took on the position and earned the
right to be the manager of Aberdeen.”We threw as much time and energy into Barry as we could, expecting and hoping he might take
us back to the league form we saw in the spring of last year. The Club has a talented group of players, which makes our current
standing in the league unsatisfactory.
“This change is essential to help us refocus on our goals for the remaining 17 games in the league and the Scottish Cup.”
“The Club is doing well as a company. We have record season ticket sales, substantial commercial growth, minimal bank debt, and
AberDNA membership sales. Additionally, we are able to invest a lot more in the football business than we make in operational
income thanks to our developing player trading model.
However, I acknowledge that the board and I are also accountable for the managerial upheavals as chairman. Everyone finds it
exhausting, not only our managers who lost their jobs after giving it their all. We have invited Scott Anderson to help First Team
Coach Peter Leven oversee training in the interim.
