‘I’m hearing this morning…’ – Pundit reacts to last-minute Cyriel Dessers exit news at Rangers
Derek Ferguson claims that Rangers will not permit Cyriel Dessers to leave Ibrox before the transfer window closes on Thursday at 11:30 p.m.
Since Michael Beale acquired Dessers from Cremonense in the summer, the 29-year-old has faced a great deal of criticism for his performance in Scotland. But since the winter break ended, the Nigerian international has scored in three straight games, beginning to solidify his place in the hearts of Ibrox fans.
But rumors about Dessers’ future at Ibrox have begun to circulate. On January 31, the Daily Record revealed that Hellas Verona is eager to sign him after Torino withdrew their interest.
The player shouldn’t be sold before the deadline
Ferguson says that although he can see why Italian teams are now interested in the Rangers striker, the player shouldn’t be sold before the deadline has passed because of his recent performance, which has drawn attention to Ibrox.
Ferguson told Ibrox News, “The one thing I’d say about Dessers is that he never shirks away, his attitude has always been spot on.”
“He’s started to put it together a bit, even though there have been moments this season when he’s been really impoverished.
“He is scoring goals, he is confident, and he is beginning to resemble the player we were promised.”
He has obviously played over in Italy, so I’m hearing this morning that a couple of Italian teams are interested in signing him. Their goal is to arrive prior to the transfer window closing.
“At this point, we can’t afford to lose him, which goes to show how quickly things change in football. They would have let him go right away if it had happened six or seven weeks earlier, but you need him right now.
“He’s arguably the only pure striker we have.”
Since joining the Gers in the summer, Dessers has made 33 appearances across all competitions, tallying 12 goals and 7 assists.
