Last-gasp Rangers signing now seems to be off, will be clarified by midnight tonight – report
With only hours left in the Cypriot transfer window, Jefte’s move from APOEL to Rangers seems to be off, according to 24 Sports.
On January 31, the internet news source from Cyprus announced that Jefte had resumed his first-team training with APOEL.
Football Scotland (30 January) had earlier stated that the left-back had not been
seen by his loan club in five days, despite rumors that the 20-year-old’s parent club,
Fluminese, and the Gers had reached an agreement over a deal for him.
But now that he’s back in Cyprus, things will finally be clear about the Brazilian’s destiny by midnight on January 31.
Fortunate escape
After these recent events, it seems as though the Rangers may have escaped a bullet should a trade for Jefte fall through.
Jefte doesn’t appear like a dependable player, which is understandable given Philippe Clement’s desire to bolster his squad and add a
left-back before the Scottish transfer window closes.
It is utterly unethical to vanish from the scene for five days without communicating with your team, and the arrival of a guy with that
kind of demeanor may have upset Rangers’ momentum.
The Gers are pursuing Celtic and still need to think about playing in Europe, so they don’t want any attitude issues like Jefte’s
disappearance to cause discord in the team’s locker room.
The defender’s lack of regard for his loan club is evident, and things could have gotten sticky
if he had behaved similarly when he moved to Scotland.
