The 20-year-old will join the Ibrox club on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Colombian currently plays for Lens in Ligue 1, but he has only made 11 first-team appearances since moving from his own country this summer.

The right winger will initially join Rangers on loan until the summer, with Philippe Clement’s team having the option to buy him.

If they chose to activate that clause, Cortes will join on a four- or five-year contract.

Fabio Silva and Mohamed Diomande have already joined the Ibrox club in January as Clement rebuilds his team.

Brazilian left back Jefte is also expected to sign with Rangers before the window closes tomorrow night.

Meanwhile, Rangers academy director Zeb Jacobs has claimed that the Ibrox club has the best young talent and youth programme in Scottish football, but has also stated that he and his colleagues are still looking for ways to develop more.

Jacobs, who formerly served as head of development at Royal Antwerp in Belgium before arriving to Scotland three years ago, has made significant adjustments to the Auchenhowie setup since joining the Glasgow giants.

However, the Double Pass consultant, who assists the renowned organisation in advising and educating associations, clubs, and leagues on player development, revealed that he is continuously hunting for ideas to “steal” while welcoming a £400,000 investment from the Rangers Youth Development Company.

“I believe we have the best young talent and programme in Scotland,” he stated. “But that doesn’t mean that we’re done yet because the goal is also the infinite goal – the most exciting learning environment in sports.”
