As Rangers manager, Philippe Clement has had a rather successful first transfer window.
With the addition of midfielder Mohamed Diomande from FC Nordsjaelland for an alleged cost of approximately £4.5 million and
forward Fabio Silva on loan from Wolves, the Belgian has made a lasting impression on the team this month.
In the final days of the transfer window, the Gers are eager to bolster their roster with more talent. Oscar Cortes, a winger, is
reportedly just a medical away from finishing his loan move from RC Lens, and Jefte, a left back for Fluminense, may yet travel to
Ibrox even though he is currently on loan at APOEL in Cyprus.
Only Sam Lammers (loan) and Steven Davis (retirement) have departed the Light Blues squad this month as Clement’s team looks to
reclaim the Scottish Premiership title. This month has been all about strengthening the Rangers roster.
One player who has been under the spotlight in recent weeks is Rabbi Matondo. The Gers signed the winger at the start of last season
from German side Schalke after loan spells with Stoke City and Cercle Brugge.
The 11-time Welsh international has struggled to make the desire impact since moving to Glasgow and has been limited to just 31
Premiership appearances during his first 18 months – with the vast majority of those coming from the bench.
The 23-year-old’s lack of first team action prompted talk of a potential move back to the Bundesliga where
he is still admired by relegation strugglers Mainz.
However, Football Scotland understands that Matondo is committed to making a name for himself at Ibrox – adding that the
Welshman is keen to stay and fight for his place.
A recent injury to Abdallah Sima could increase his first team exposure in the coming weeks.
The Senegalese international was injured
during training at the Africa Cup of Nations and is expected to be out for a lengthy period, according to Clement.
