16-goal attacker “very happy” at club despite Serie A interest after Rangers bid rejected

Plymouth Argyle have rejected an approach from Serie A giants Lazio for Michael Beale Rangers target Morgan Whittaker.

The Italian club made headlines this week when it was revealed that Lazio are interested in signing the English Championship attacker, who has 16 goals this season.

Rangers fans were left wondering what may have happened if Swansea had rejected their offer for Morgan Whittaker a year ago.

However, the most recent news from the Pilgrims indicates that Morgan Whittaker will not be joining Lazio in January.

Plymouth Director of Football Neil Dewsnip spoke with Plymouth Live about the Lazio interest,

claiming that a transfer approach was “immediately rejected”.

This came during a conversation with Morgan Whittaker, 23, who is believed to be “very happy” at Home Park.

“Last night we received an official offer for Morgan from Lazio,” according to Dewsnip.

“The offer was quickly rejected after internal discussions and consultation with the player’s representation.

Morgan is quite happy at Argyle, and we maintain that he is not for sale.

Lazio’s interest comes after Morgan Whittaker scored 16 goals and provided seven assists in 31 appearances this season.

Rangers had an offer rejected for Morgan Whittaker in January 2023,

when Michael Beale tried to sign the then-Swansea winger.

According to reports at the time,

Rangers were willing to pay up to £2 million for the attacker,

who had been recalled to South Wales following a barnstorming loan spell with League One Plymouth.

Despite Swansea manager Russell Martin apologizing to Rangers fans for the incident,

Whittaker found opportunities limited with the Welsh club last season.

Plymouth surpassed their transfer record in the summer when they signed the forward for about £1 million plus add-ons to bring him to the south coast.

This occurred against the backdrop of new links to Rangers under former manager Beale.

Now developing as one of the Championship’s brightest talents,

goals like this one against Sunderland earlier this season suggest Rangers may regret not signing the forward.
