With the possible £30 million agreement, Sacha Boey, a former target of Arsenal and Celtic, has joined Bundesliga

winners Bayern Munich, who see him as a defender “with a lot of potential.”

Three years have passed since Sacha Boey signed a contract with Galatasaray, declining the opportunity to play for a

Celtic team that had its sights set on another emerging, underappreciated player from across the Channel, following in

the footsteps of Virgil van Dijk, Odsonne Edouard, and company.

Boey responded, “Yes, Celtic wanted to sign me,” costing the Turkish powerhouses only £2.2 million at the time.

In January 2024, while there is undoubtedly sadness at Boey’s exit (especially with the Super Lig title at stake),

Galatasaray may at least take solace in the fact that they have made a profit that is significantly greater than £20 million.

Sacha Boey chooses Bayern Munich over Galatasaray

In recent seasons, Bayern Munich has struggled to find a right-back to replace the storied Philipp Lahm, with Noussair

Mazraoui, Bouna Sarr, and Joao Cancelo all trying to hold down the position.

The onus now shifts to Boey, with Bayern concluding a contract worth up to £30 million for the Frenchman after Celtic’s

own attempt to sign him ended in failure.

As stated on the club’s official website, “We’re pleased to have signed a young player with a lot of potential on a long-t

erm deal in Sacha Boey,” said CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen of Bayern.

“He played incredibly well against us in both of our Champions League games. It indicates that we have gained more

quality in addition to increasing the depth of our team.

Sporting director Christoph Freund continues, “Sacha Boey is a very quick and physically strong right-back who covers a

lot of ground in every game and doesn’t shy away from any tackles.”

“He was a beloved player at Galatasaray, has matured greatly over the years, has Champions League experience, and led

Galatasaray to the league title last year. He’ll improve our defense capabilities.

“Galatasaray and Arsenal meetings”

HITC Football has learned that Bayern struck a roadblock in their pursuit of Kieran Trippier of Newcastle and Nordi

Mukiele of PSG, and they then switched their attention to Boey, who was also a target for Arsenal last summer.

Boey recently admitted to speaking with other clubs, as reported by the French magazine CARRÉ. Galatasaray was

contacted by these clubs as well. I had the chance to attend various meetings between Galatasaray administration and

Arsenal officials, as well as the Premier League.

“Although there was no formal offer, there was interest.”
