Jack Butland and Joe Hart debate sparked as Ally McCoist talks up Rangers keeper for England Euro 2024 squad

Ally McCoist’s support for Jack Butland in the England squad has generated a heated debate this morning.

Since joining the Gers on a free transfer at the start of this season,

the 30-year-old goalkeeper has been brilliant and possibly their best purchase of last summer.

He has grown in popularity among supporters,

and there have been rumors that he could be called up by his country for Euro 2024.

McCoist is one of the Light Blues supporters that is particularly excited about Butland this summer.

The Ibrox great has previously declared how good the former Manchester United loanee has been since arriving north,

and he now feels he should be a cert to be Gareth Southgate’s third choice keeper for the tournament in Germany.

He pinned his colors to the mast while talkSPORT argued who should fly on the plane.

McCoist stated, “I am speaking on behalf of the family here.” My lads texted me to inform Jeff that Butland is in all day.

He has been absolutely fantastic. “He plays every week.

But host Jeff Stelling wasn’t convinced and wondered, “How many saves does he have to make every week?”

The broadcasting icon went on to say, “It makes no difference which club he is with.

He hasn’t played for England since 2018, and I doubt he’ll go.

“I tell you what, Ally, the third goalkeeper in the England squad won’t play.

“Take James Trafford of Burnley; he has represented England at every level, and he is 21.

If you give him the experience of being at a major tournament, he will not play.

Pickford will play every game unless he is injured,

in which case Ramsdale will replace him.

“James Trafford will not play, but everyone knows he is a terrific young goalie.

He is the future, and with the best of intentions, Jack Butland is not the future right now.

He has had a lot of indifferent years and he is performing wonderfully at Rangers.

“You brought up Joe Hart; why don’t we go there as well?”
