For the first time, former Rangers player Dapo Mebude has opened up about his potentially fatal vehicle accident.

Earlier this month, the former Scotland Under-21 international was hurt in a horrific incident in Belgium.

The incident happened on Sunday, July 7, while the 22-year-old player for Oostende was driving to a practice match when his

automobile struck a tree.

He was in critical condition when he was taken to the hospital. He had an emergency surgery, and it went well.

The former Gers academy prodigy has given supporters an update on his health since getting back to a stable state.

“I appreciate everyone’s concern for me following the accident,” he stated. I’m relieved that I was able to leave the hospital and that my recuperation is progressing. I intend to come back shortly.”

Mebude went through the youth divisions before joining Rangers at the age of 11. In a 2019 away loss to Kilmarnock, Steven Gerrard gave him his first-team debut.

Ally McCoist, meanwhile, was not buying Jeff Stelling’s claims that Joe Hart, the goalkeeper for Celtic, had a good chance of reaching

England’s squad for Euro 2024 only because Jack Butland has been mentioned.

Since moving to Ibrox on a free transfer this summer, the Rangers number one has been in incredible form. The 30-year-old, who left

Crystal Palace at the end of his contract, signed as a free agent.

Butland’s performance for the Light Blues has been so strong that many fans and commentators have called for him to return to the England starting lineup.

The issue between McCoist and Stelling spurred a discussion on talkSPORT this morning, with Stelling not being too happy about Butland’s involvement in Germany.
