The Whites are selling defender Leo Hjelde to Sunderland for a reported £2 million,

with 15% going to Celtic due to a sell-on option, according to sources.

The Whites have sanctioned deals to let players depart Elland Road this month,

but they have yet to make up for it with new signings.

So far, the focus has been on the defense,

with a third key departure from Daniel Farke’s defense set to be confirmed soon.

Leo Hjelde agreed to join Sunderland for £2 million.

Monday morning brought news that Leo Hjelde was close to leaving Elland Road and

joining Sunderland in the Championship.

Fabrizio Romano reported that the Whites have accepted a £2 million offer

from the Black Cats for the Norway U21 international.

He was scheduled to have a medical today in preparation for a transfer, which is expected to take place soon.

Which signing is the most crucial this week?

Hjelde is moving to Celtic with a 15% sell-on.

However, TEAMtalk claims that Hjelde’s Leeds deal includes a 15% sell-on clause.

This implies Celtic will be entitled to a part of the estimated £2 million transfer fee, which equals £300,000.

This sell-on isn’t surprising given that we signed him as a

youth investment with high expectations of him being a significant player here.

You’d imagine the same would be true for any deal Leeds does with Sunderland,

as we’re letting a very talented player go.

For whatever  reason, he hasn’t been fancied at Elland Road,

and you have to just hope that Leeds have covered themselves well here and have a similar clause included.

This fee needs to be reinvested almost immediately too.
