Oscar Cortes is scheduled to travel to Glasgow as the ‘drastic’ collapse risk is ruled out in the Rangers

transfer report.

Oscar Cortes is scheduled to arrive in Glasgow this week, and Rangers are hoping to “rubber-stamp” a

deal for him, according to Football Scotland.

The outlet stated on their website on January 29 that the winger will sign with the Light Blues before the

January transfer window closes and that it is “not expected to happen” that the deal will fall through due

to a “drastic misstep” in the negotiations.

Rangers’ title challenge under Clement is evaluated as “the gap is closing.”

After spending just six months in France with Lens, the 20-year-old is expected to sign a loan agreement

with Rangers, with the possibility to buy if he does well enough for the team.

Along with age-mate Jefte, Cortes will join Fabio Silva and Mohamed Diomande as January Rangers

newcomers. After that, there are still plans for both inward and outgoing travel.

Within the sack?

Though little may be taken at face value in the final days of the January window, there seems to be a lot

of confidence that this deal will be completed before the deadline on February 1.

Therefore, it is obvious that the Gers must take care to avoid making any of the “drastic missteps” that

could cause the Cortes deal to fall through.

With just four Ligue 1 matches under his belt, Lens is content to let him move on despite just having

signed him from Millonarios in his native country this summer.

However, after Ryan Kent left the team when his contract expired and Fashion Sakala was sold, and

because regular wide starter Abdallah Sima was ruled out for the majority of the season this month,

Rangers were thought to be lacking width following their summer overhaul under Michael Beale. As a

result, there appears to be a chance at Ibrox during the second half of the season.

After a rather rough start to the season prior to his arrival, the Belgian manager has already won the

Viaplay Cup and put up a strong comeback.

Rangers is only five points behind Celtic with a game remaining, so the title fight appears to be back on,

even if Rangers lost his first Old Firm derby on December 30. The correct acquisitions at this juncture

might prove to be the difference.

In other Rangers news, the team has reached an agreement to recruit a new player, although they might

now have to pay twice the agreed-upon transfer cost.
