Oscar Cortez is headed to Ibrox for Rangers after a new January window agreement was reached.

Before the transfer window closes, Oscar Cortez is heading to Glasgow to finalize a loan-to-buy deal with

Rangers, as reported by Julian Capera.

Following an agreement with Lens, the writer for Futbol Red tweeted on January 28 that the Colombian

was in route to Ibrox to finalize the deal.

The 20-year-old will sign a contract with the Light Blues that includes a permanent option after joining

on loan for the remainder of the current campaign.

The youth only joined the French team in the summer after leaving Millonarios, but he will now be part

of Philippe Clement’s winter recruitment.

So far, Mohamed Diomande has joined on a lucrative loan-to-buy from FC Nordsjaelland, while Fabio

Silva has joined on loan from Wolves.

In response to Capera’s claim from Sunday night, The 4th Official stated on Patreon that Cortez is now

traveling to the Rangers “as of right now.”

In motion

On January 27, Clement had disclosed that the intention was for the team to remain active until the

deadline [4 Lads Had A Dream]. It appears like Cortez and Fluminense full-back Jefte will be joining, as

that is what appears to be planned.

The need to add forward reinforcements at Ibrox this month has only grown as a result of Abdallah

Sima’s injury, which prevented him from playing a minute during the Africa Cup of Nations.

Rangers already lack depth up front due to a striker’s extensive ailments, and now the on-loan Brighton

player’s goals from wide will be absent as well.

Cortez has several years remaining on his contract since he only relocated to Europe half a season ago,

so the likelihood is that the permanent option won’t be cheap.

If Jefte and Cortez both join, the manager would have two needs met with the squad’s youthful South

American arrivals. However, it appears that a backup number nine to support Cyriel Dessers would still

be needed.

Another Rangers story involves an Ibrox star who turned down a transfer request from the team before

to the deadline.
