The ball is now in Jose Cifuentes‘ court after Rangers accepted a loan-to-buy offer from Turkish club Rizespor for the Ecuadorian.

Over the weekend, it was revealed that the Turkish Super Lig club had made a loan offer for the former LAFC player, with a £2 million obligatory buy clause.

It comes after a poor first six months in Glasgow for the 24-year-old midfielder, who was bought from the MLS team in the summer for a reputed £1.2 million.

Ibrox insiders Heart & Hand have stated that Rangers have accepted the Rizespor deal and that any transfer decision is now up to Jose Cifuentes.

If the transfer is finalized, Rangers may profit by £800,000 on the midfielder.

Michael Beale has previously stated that the £1.2 million transfer fee associated to the player is significantly greater than the actual fee.

Jose Cifuentes joining Rizespor?

If Jose Cifuentes decides to move to Turkey, it will bring an end to the midfielder’s disappointing tenure with Rangers.

Supporters praised former manager Michael Beale for signing the Ecuador World Cup hero in the summer,

despite Cifuentes having previously been linked to Brighton, Newcastle United, and even Manchester City.

Arriving late in the summer window, it looks that Jose Cifuentes has failed to settle with trading Los Angeles for

Glasgow a culture shock we can all appreciate for a South American footballer.

Throw into that a frustrated Instagram post about returning from injury ahead of the clash with Dumbarton,

and suddenly things didn’t look to be going to plan for the Rangers star.

Rangers bolster midfield with transfer

Rangers have also made a significant midfield addition in the January transfer window,

with Mohamed Diomande joining from FC Nordsjaelland.

Rangers now have midfield options after signing Diomande on a loan-to-buy deal for £4.3 million this summer.

John Lundstram, who is currently the subject of much contract discussion,

has been a player resurrected under Philippe Clement.

Nicolas Raskin is returning to form after a long-term injury, Ryan Jack continues to see minutes off the bench,

and Dujon Sterling has emerged as a genuine midfield alternative in the squad.

Competition is obviously high, and when you combine those other reasons with Jose Cifuentes’ attempts to settle at Rangers,

possibly Rizespor and the Turkish Super Lig looks an increasingly tempting option.

Whatever the case, the decisions appears to be Jose’s and whether he stays or goes,

Rangers stand to benefit financially from the deal to bring him to Glasgow.
