Maresca’s true hero against SWFC, along with Fatawu, was Leicester’s “Rolls-Royce.”
Sheffield Wednesday, who are currently at the bottom of the table,
equalized at the very end of the game through a goal by Jeff Hendrick,
after Leicester City had dominated periods of play in the second half.
The leaders of the table did take an early lead at Hillsborough,
but they never put Danny Rohl’s opponents to the test that evening.
Abdul Fatawu scored the game’s first goal with a hammering of the ball after Dominic Iorfa
was caught off guard by Stephy Mavididi’s weaving run on the
opposite flank, and a cross later found the 19-year-old attacker in space to score.
For Enzo Maresca’s Foxes this season, the teenager has been a revelation,
dazzled Owls defenders all night long in a three-pronged
attack with Mavididi and the ever-dependable Jamie Vardy.
Abdul Fatawu’s game in numbers
Football talent scout Jacek Kulig described Fatuwu as a “fantastic prospect”
when he saw him play for Sporting CP. Signed by the Foxes in the summer,
Fatuwu is performing well beyond his years, with Leicester currently
being a relative unknown in the English game.
Another outstanding solo effort by the youthful Ghanaian forward,
Fatuwu’s goal against the Owls was his second of the season in his new uniform.
Although Leicester’s new number 18 is far from perfect,
his raw and exciting skill with the ball was on display against the Owls.
According to Sofascore, he attempted two more attempts at Cameron Dawson’s
goal during the match, but both of them were off target.
Even after his early goal early in the game, Fatuwu continued to try to
penetrate the formidable Wednesday defense. He was successful in two of his five
dribble attempts that evening, and the Owls defense at times struggled to contain the flamboyant Winger.
While Harry Winks, an ex-Tottenham Hotspur player,
was a delight to watch at center back for the Foxes,
he also played a stylish and assured game. The 19-year-old was crucial to
Maresca’s title contenders’ lone goal of the game.
