Barry Ferguson suggests says Celtic could sell their top player in January for £10 million.
Celtic players’ departures from the team will always be connected.
in particular, those who exhibit obvious skill.
Because players at a team like Celtic receive excellent exposure,
whether it’s through Champions League play or winning titles and cups.
It’s just how the beast is. However, Celtic has made it clear this season that teams will have to pay the going rate if they want to sign their best players.
Following Ange Postecoglou’s departure to Spurs this summer,
the Parkhead club signed new contracts with no fewer than eight of its first-team players.
Barry Ferguson’s claim is all the more odd considering that
they turned down desperate summer bids for two of their players.
Regarding Matt O’Riley, Ferguson seems to imply that if Celtic were offered £10 million
in January, they would take it.
Recent reports in the media suggest that the Celtic midfielder
is being targetted by Crystal Palace and Newcastle United so it will
take a helluva lot more than £10m to win his signature.
It’ll be interesting, Ferguson said [on The Go Radio Football Show].
Probably the best Celtic player this season has been Matt O’Riley.
“What would happen if a bid of £10 million was made in January? Do they go buy him out?
“Do they go and replace him? Since I believe clubs will be observing him.
“He didn’t have the best of nights against Lazio last night, but all in all,
I believe he has been a serious candidate to win Celtic’s best player award this season.”
Matt O’Riley will never leave Celtic for £10m
Ferguson’s suggestion appears even more absurd in light of the fact that
Celtic rejected a £10 million bid in August prior to O’Riley agreeing to a new contract.
Before he signed a new contract, O’Riley was valued at over £12 million by a recent football study. His recent
Champions League performances have further demonstrated his ability to play at the highest level.
This comment is even more odd considering that earlier in the season,
Ferguson valued O’Riley at £15 million.
He seems to be hoping Celtic will sell him. I don’t blame him either.
The Danish international has been fantastic in the last two seasons,
contributing to five out of six trophies won, and as long as he plays for the club,
he will undoubtedly continue to produce success.
