Aston Villa confirm contract agreement as goalkeeper signs on
BirminghamLive brings you Aston Villa news as the team announces that James Wright has signed a new deal.
James Wright, a promising goalkeeper, has inked a new deal with Aston Villa, the team has announced.
At the age of sixteen, the 19-year-old became a member of Villa, and in subsequent seasons, he has played for both
the under-18 and under-21 teams. Earlier this month, Wright was placed on the bench against Everton, making his
debut in a senior squad.
Since the beginning of January, he is the most recent young player to sign a contract extension with the team. Prior
to going on loan to St Johnstone, Kerr Smith inked a new contract, and midfielder Tommi O’Reilly also extended his
agreement.
James’s new contract is fantastic news, according to Villa academy boss Mark Harrison. When it comes to his
conduct both on and off the field, James has been an inspiration to us since he joined us at the age of 16.
Without a doubt, this and the diligent effort of the staff—especially Mark Naylor and Michael Pearce from our
goalkeeping department—along with the invaluable assistance of Francisco Javier Garcia, the first team goalkeeping
coach, have contributed to his growth. We’re interested to see James’ growth over the ensuing years.
This month, Villa is also trying to bring in a new goalkeeper to rival Robin Olsen as Emi Martinez’s backup. Swedish
club Elfsborg rejected Villa’s approach for Iceland goalkeeper Hakon Valdimarsson, but Brentford rushed in and are
moving with a deal to sign the 22-year-old.
