BBC Sportscene pundit shares Dessers exit speculation verdict after footage of Rangers striker
Rangers: ESPN After seeing footage of Ibrox striker, a CNN pundit shares Cyriel Dessers’ leave speculation assessment.
After his goal in the 3-0 victory over Hibernian, Neil McCann thinks Cyriel Dessers may have done enough to stay at Rangers this month.
The Nigerian replaced Fabio Silva in the late game and scored with his first touch and a beautiful finish to extend his goal tally for the
season to 11. However, there is still conjecture on whether he would be traded before the deadline.
However, in a live interview with BBC Sportscene on January 24, 15 minutes after scoring, McCann conjectured that since Danilo and
Abdallah Sima would be sidelined for the majority of the remaining season due to injury, he would be required at Ibrox, and he’s making a
strong case to stay put by scoring frequently.
He responded, “Listen, there’s a lot of speculation about him; he’s a player.” “Is he going to stay or go? However, after 11 goals, Sima is now
hurt. He will be absent for a significant duration. Danilo is the same.
Can they then release him? If he does leave, do they have another striker lined up? But the only thing that boy can do when he steps onto
the field, whether as a substitute or a starter, is try to find the back of the net, and he did it once more tonight.
Reasonable
There isn’t much time remaining in the transfer window and Rangers clearly don’t have a striker option lined up otherwise they would
surely have pulled the trigger by now.
Sam Lammers was allowed to leave as he has no future under Philippe Clement and Fabio Silva came in as a direct replacement meaning
the team wasn’t left short on numbers.
Although Dessers had a difficult time getting off to a strong start in the beginning of the season, he has since been able to score goals in
games, and it seems that Clement knows more about how to use him than Michael Beale did.
When the team as a whole is performing well around him and he continues to contribute to the scoreboard, it doesn’t make sense to try to
move him on so rapidly when the money is obviously not there.
Dessers can contribute to the team in some way until the end of the season, at which point they can reassess, unless there is a
straightforward deal that needs to be completed.
