As they made their final trip south of the border for the season, the Bhoys wanted to complete a perfect three-point haul in the tournament.

The Celts were unfortunate not to win either of their final two tournament games against Brighton and Chelsea.

But Lewis Dobbie’s double and Mitchel Frame’s neat finish ensured that the youthful Celtic team wouldn’t return home empty-handed, as they prevailed in Southampton.

After the game, B Team coach Stephen McManus discussed his team’s performance and expressed his satisfaction with an outstanding team effort, especially in the second half.

“We talked about it before the game; we probably haven’t gotten the results that some of our performances have deserved in this competition,” he stated.

A few lads were also absent, as they were on the first team, which has been fantastic.

Boys therefore need to step up, establish their individuality, and practically take the lead on the team. You witnessed that throughout the show.

“There were several excellent individual performances, and we played well as a team overall, particularly in the second half.

Therefore, we are incredibly happy that the guys’ performance yielded a result.

It was another very youthful team that traveled south to face English Premier League Academy opponents, as it has been for much of this season.

The young Hoops were without a few players who have participated in every game of this championship before the contest.

However, that had no bearing on the Bhoys’ caliber of play, as they overcame the Saints by coming from behind.

McManus was happy with that element of the performance and commended the players for their hard work this season.

“We enjoy bringing the younger ones up whenever we can because we are aware of the excellent work that is done with the under-18s as well,” he remarked.

We will bring them up if we have the chance to do so. Boys like Colby Donovan, who I believe you can see in the performances, have taken on any task we give them.

Sean McArdle has exhibited consistency. He had an appearance earlier in the season, and it’s wonderful to see him go back to his previous level.

Jude Bonnar, one of the lads who entered, may not have played as much football as he would have liked. But he’s been outstanding in the last few games.

‘The boys apply themselves every single day, and they are a brilliant bunch to work with. A real honest, genuine group that want to improve.’

“You can see the benefits they are beginning to receive, such as praise from the starting lineup or strong showings in pivotal moments. Therefore, there is a lot to learn from the game.
