‘They’ve got to be very careful’: Alan Brazil reacts to transfer news coming out of Celtic

Alan Brazil has responded to reports this week that Atletico Madrid has launched an offer to recruit Celtic’s Matt O’Riley.

The Danish international has surfaced as a target for the Spanish club,

with sources claiming that Atletico Madrid made a loan approach with an obligation to buy O’Riley in recent days.

With the 23-year-old being one of Celtic’s most important players,

any sale would be a major decision for the club, especially with the Scottish title battle so tight.

Speaking on TalkSport, Brazil suggested that moving O’Riley may allow Rangers to leapfrog Celtic in the standings,

as the midfielder has been one of Scotland’s standout players this season.

Brazil stated in response to the news, “You can’t sell him! They have to be very careful because

I keep telling people that if Rangers can beat Celtic at Ibrox and win their games in hand again, it will be close.”

When Gabriel Agbonlahor questioned if Celtic would sell for a good price,

Brazil answered, “No, no, no, Mr Desmond doesn’t need the money.”

Atletico Madrid will need to pay up to attract Matt O’Riley away from Celtic.

With double digits in goals and assists already this season across all competitions,

it’s no wonder that Atletico is interested in signing a midfielder like O’Riley.

However, if Celtic are to let go of their talismanic Dane, the trade must be financially viable,

and it is unclear how much Atletico are willing to offer to sign O’Riley.

Indeed, like most great clubs, Atletico’s finances are not in the best of shape,

and the La Liga giants are unlikely to match what Celtic are looking for in O’Riley.

However, considering the club’s size and the opportunity that is now available,

the player himself may be able to force a trade through, with Atletico being a dream move for a player like O’Riley.
