Rangers are reportedly shifting their focus to Anass Salah-Eddine in their search for a new left-back,

and there are plenty of reasons to be positive.

The Netherlands under-21 international returned to Ajax after a loan spell at FC Twente last summer,

looking to cement his spot in the first squad at his parent club.

However, when Borna Sosa joined from Stuttgart for a cost of £8.5 million – a significant expenditure for any Eredivisie club,

including Ajax’s comparatively rich finances – Salah-Eddine had a bad feeling about the season’s outcome.

“These are unexpected occurrences. I could say I don’t mind, but that would be a lie.

“It’s not nice, but it’s part of it,” Salah-Eddine told Voetbal International following Sosa’s unexpected deadline day arrival.

“I chatted with the trainer (the now-departed Maurice Steijn) and determined that I wanted to fight for a chance at Ajax.

I just want to make the most of my time here so that when I leave, I can say, ‘I did everything I could’.”

Rangers consider a January Ajax raid.

Nearly five months after Sosa arrived at the Johan Cryuff Arena,

it has become clear that Salah-Eddine’s concerns were not unfounded.

The 22-year-old from Amsterdam has made ten league games for Ajax’s reserves this season,

compared to six for the senior squad. He’s just played seven minutes of Eredivisie action since early November,

and opportunities are still scarce, even as Sosa, like many of the club’s summer recruits, struggles to meet expectations.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Rangers are offering Salah-Eddine a lifeline during the final week of the winter window.

And this is an opportunity the teenager must be tempted to seize,

as frustration is likely rising behind the scenes after making no secret of his desire for regular first-team action.

Anass Salah-Eddine linked to Ibrox switch.

“Ajax are open to loaning out Anass Salah-Eddine in the final days of the January transfer window,

” Romano says in an article on X. “The 2002-born Holland U21 left-back is on the radar of numerous clubs,

including Rangers and Torino.

“However, the race is open. So far, nothing has been decided upon.

Rangers are unlikely to increase their interest unless Borna Barisic (who is out of contract in July)

or Ridvan Yilmaz (who is linked with a return to Turkey) leave. But if one of the two leaves,

and Ajax sticks with Sosa, Salah-Eddine may decide that this is an opportunity he cannot pass up.
